Colin Purrington > Stags' Leap Winery petite syrah 2005. Not to be confused with Stag's Leap Wine Cellars (note apostrophe difference...on purpose, the founder wanted to avoid direct plagiarism of brand). The apostrophe at the end is the correct version, since that usage dates back to Stags' Leap Manor House, built in the 1800s (first bottle produced in 1893). Both are in the Stags Leap District, California (yes, no apostrophe)...I gather other vineyards in the area wanted to parasitize on both of the names, hence the creation of the district with that name. But the lack of apostrophe was a lame way to stay out of the apostrophe issue. Amusing.
Colin Purrington > Blueberry pie for after the lobster dinner. Served with ice cream from Bob Hoffman's, in Point Pleasant, New Jersey.
Colin Purrington > Crab omelet with cilantro, on an English muffin. Chez Purrington West.
Colin Purrington > Grilling lamb. I don't normally wear a watch, so must have been on a day I took a long beach run.
Colin Purrington > Bowl of steak tartare. One of my favorite meals. The name is apparently from the historic use of tartar sauce, not the Tartars. Of course, tarter sauce used to be Tartar's sauce, which was from the Tartars.

Colin Purrington > De-stuffing a turkey (Meleagris gallopavo) for Christmas dinner. Bacon lattice courtesy of my sister, I suspect. Chorizo and blue corn stuffing, I also suspect. In future years I'm going to suggest we "freshen up" the bacon every hour, just so that the breast retains flavor. Knowing my family, this suggestion will not be viewed as sarcastic.
Colin Purrington > Crab and avocado omelet in an old cast-iron frying pan. Heaven. Crab is dungeness, from Waldport, Oregon.
Colin Purrington > Round leaves on a cutting board.
Colin Purrington > Shredding pork for carnitas. Nothing better.
