Colin Purrington > Poison ivy growing on sycamore trunk. I'd love to get a pair of camo with a sycamore print. Best bark ever.
Colin Purrington > Trout lily (Erythronium americanum) in Crum Creek woods on the campus of Swarthmore College, Pennsylvania.
Colin Purrington > Milkweed (Asclepius sp) seeds in the evening. Scott Arboretum, Swarthmore College, Pennsylvania.
Colin Purrington > Arabidopsis growing wild. Not too wild, but certainly not in a cushy growth chamber or Petri dish. The area near the train tracks in Swarthmore, PA is covered with the plant. And yes, it's true -- this is not an amazing photograph. But this plant is a fairly important part of plant genetics and biotechnology, so I wanted to feature here.
Colin Purrington > Small Arabidopsis flowering near train tracks in Swarthmore, Pennsylvania. As with other photograph of Arabidopsis in this gallery, not an amazing image. But it's an important lab rat for botanists and plant physiologists, so I wanted to post just in case they've never seen it growing wild.
Colin Purrington > Pink tree peony flower with whorl of anthers. Stigma is darker red, in center. Love this plant.
Colin Purrington > Chives in my garden. I liked how the flower was catching the morning light, but the leaves in back were not.
Colin Purrington > Anthers of honeysuckle, a twining vine. Swarthmore, PA.
Colin Purrington > Water lily with honeybees. Bangkok, Thailand. Private garden.
Colin Purrington > Fungi on margins of clover leaves. It's a pretty look even though the plants are infected. I'm a sucker for anything picotee.
Colin Purrington > Milkweed pods coated with ice. Growing in meadow in Swarthmore, PA.
Colin Purrington > Snow drops (Galanthus sp.) in snow. Scott Arboretum, Swarthmore College, Pennsylvania.
Colin Purrington > Daffodils breaking through the snow.
Colin Purrington > Parasitic plants growing at base of a beech tree. These plants never look that dramatic, so I like to photograph them when there's snow on the ground.
Colin Purrington > Patch of purple Crocus flowers. Wish they were the saffron variety (Crocus sativa).
